Tip

I'd like to thank all the reviewers of the book, especially Ron Jeffries, David Gelperin, and Rick Craig. I'm grateful for all your excellent feedback, criticism, and advice (even the parts I foolishly didn't take).

Thanks to the management team and my many colleagues at OCLC, who have been supporters and users of the tools and systems I've written over the years in particular Richard Hale, the absolute best boss I've ever had; Don Muccino, who made it possible to provide WebART outside OCLC; Gary Houk, who originally set me to the task of test automation in 1982; and Cindy Bean, Mike Veselenak, Geoff Curtis, and all the other testers, programmers, and analysts who contributed ideas, tried things out, suggested improvements, and occasionally became willing guinea pigs for experimental tools and techniques.

I'd like to acknowledge the influence of two excellent teachers from my school days: Lloyd Evans, my algebra and geometry teacher from Crestview Junior High School, who first got me started in mathematics, and Kevin Morrin, my English teacher and soccer coach at Columbus Academy, who gave me the idea I could write.

Thanks to Lisa, who got me interested in XP, then dragged me kicking and screaming in with her. Despite anything she might say, the best parts of this book exist as a result of her courage, keen insight, and just plain stubbornness about what's right and what works in both Extreme Programming and quality assurance.

Finally, thanks especially to my family for putting up with my extended absences, late nights, and the early morning trumpet practice while working on the book which, I know, seemed to go on forever.
