FORMAT

Use

Type “FORMAT” followed by the drive letter, fs:, the desired file system, and any desired switch. This version of FORMAT does not work with floppy disks, only hard drives.

Switches and Parameters

/q: Normally, FORMAT scans the disk for bad sectors. The /q switch causes FORMAT to skip this step, so it should be used only if the drive is known to be good and has been formatted before.

/fs: followed, without a space, by the name of the file system (NTFS, FAT, or FAT32): Specifies the file system. If you don’t specify a file system, FORMAT uses the existing file system, if there is one.
