Working with Fonts

The text that you type in a new text box is created in Publisher's default font, which is Times New Roman, 10 point. Each available font has a particular style or typeface.

A variety of font types exist, such as Arial, Courier, Times New Roman, CG Times, Bookman Old Style, and so on. You can select the font style for a particular publication using the Publications Design task pane or a specific task pane such as the Business Card Options task pane, depending on the type of document you are creating.

The size of the font is measured in points. A point is 1/72 of an inch, and the standard point size for business letters and other documents is 12 points. The higher the number of points (such as 18), the larger the font size.

You can change the font for existing text in a text box by following these steps:

  1. Select the text in the text box (using the mouse) that you want to change to a different font type.

  2. Click the Font drop-down box on the Formatting toolbar and select a new font from the list.

If you have finished working with a particular text box, click outside the box to deselect it. If you create a new text box, you can change the font that you use for the text that you place in the frame before you actually type any text. This, in effect, changes the default font for that particular text frame. To change to a different font, click the Font drop-down box and select a new font.

You can change the font size of text in a text box in much the same way. Select the text in the text box to which you would like to assign a new font size. Then click the Font Size drop-down box on the Formatting toolbar and select a new font size.
