Other Options Dialog Box Tabs

The Options dialog box also contains additional tabs that control other features associated with Outlook. Each tab is listed here with a description of the settings available:

  • The Spelling tab enables you to change settings associated with Outlook's spell checker. You can choose (using check boxes) to have the spell checker always suggest replacements for misspelled words, always check spelling before sending, and ignore words in uppercase. A drop-down box also enables you to pick the language of the dictionary you want to use to spell check your Outlook items.

  • The Security tab enables you to set options regarding whether outgoing messages should be encrypted or have digital signatures attached to them. An option also allows you to get a digital ID to use for your outgoing messages. Digital IDs and information on encrypting messages are covered in Lesson 9, "Setting Mail Options."

  • The Other tab enables you to set options such as whether the Deleted Items folder is emptied when you exit Outlook. Other options included on this tab include Advanced Options (accessed by clicking the Advanced Options button), which allow you to specify the folder (such as the Inbox) that is selected when Outlook is opened. The Other tab also provides access to settings related to the AutoArchive feature, which is discussed in Lesson 19, "Archiving Items."

When you have finished all the changes you want to make to the various Outlook options, click OK to close the Options dialog box. This returns you to the currently selected Outlook folder (such as the Inbox or Contacts folder).
