This chapter presented an introduction to Web services, examined the commercial landscape of Web services, discussed the WS-I, and introduced a set of Web service samples that demonstrated basic connectivity between the .NET and Java platforms.

In Chapter 6, you'll see more advanced samples of Web services, including some of the elements that are required to deliver interoperability in a production environment and the use of UDDI to provide a central registry for these Web service elements.
