Pros and Cons for the WebSphere/Domino Option

Some of the advantages of using Domino in conjunction with WAS are that Domino provides mature, extensive implementations of certain functions that are only provided as APIs in J2EE, such as mail, directory, calendaring, workflow, document handling, and so on. WebSphere Application Server provides a robust e-business application deployment environment with a complete set of application services including capabilities for transaction management, security, clustering, performance, availability, connectivity, and scalability. WAS version 5 offers full J2EE specification support, which includes servlet 2.3, JSP 1.2, and EJB 2.0 as well as a variety of extensions. The following sections give details on the unique strengths of Domino and the unique strengths of WebSphere.
