In this chapter we'll discuss certain advanced Java topics that are useful even to the novice Java programmer. Most of these topics deal with the concept of streams. Streams are what Java uses to read and write data to devices and other applications. With a fundamental understanding of the stream concept, you can write Java applications that read and write files and communicate with other servers and other Java programs. Using JavaBeans, the relationship of ActiveX to Java, and applets are also covered in this chapter.
