Servlets
Servlets are very powerful, and they can be faster than other server-side Web techniques. Servlets are Java programs that use the Java Servlet API and the associated classes and methods. In addition to the Java Servlet API, servlets can use Java class packages that extend the API. Servlets are similar to applets that run on a browser and extend the browser's capabilities. HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) servlets run on a Java-enabled Web server and extend the Web server's capabilities.
You can execute, run, and debug servlets within the VisualAge for Java environment; however, the Enterprise version of VisualAge has more powerful servlet support than the other two versions.
