Configuring an LDAP Address Book for WebAccess

This section explains how to configure an LDAP address book. From the address book, the user can perform LDAP lookups on predefined LDAP servers. As an administrator, you have the flexibility of defining additional LDAP servers, thus allowing users to query LDAP-compliant servers for addresses. The GroupWise Windows 32-bit client gives users the ability to define LDAP address books, so this functionality has also been added to the GroupWise WebAccess client. By default, two LDAP servers are created when the WebAccess Application is installed. They are the popular public LDAP servers BigFoot and SwitchBoard.

You configure additional LDAP servers through the LDAPProvider object. This object was created when the WebAccess Application was installed.

Here you will see the two default LDAP servers. You are presented with a configuration screen that allows you to set up the new LDAP server. When you click the Edit or Add buttons, you'll see the following options:

  • Name: Enter the name of the LDAP server. This is the name that the user will see when selecting an LDAP server to search from the WebAccess client.

  • Server: Enter the DNS name or IP address of the server that is servicing LDAP requests from clients.

  • Port: The standard LDAP port is 389. If the LDAP server you are defining has been configured to use a different port, you should modify this field. If not, keep the default port.

  • Maximum Results: Enter the maximum number of results that can be returned to the WebAccess client from the LDAP server. The default is 100.

  • Timeout: The timeout value here represents how long the LDAP provider will wait on the configured LDAP server for a reply. The default is 30 seconds

  • Search Base: Enter the search base value here. LDAP servers allow you to configure a search base that sets limits on how many objects can be searched. When the LDAP server was set up, a search base should have been defined. This search base should match the search base defined on the LDAP server.

  • Image URL: This is the path to the image file that you would like displayed to represent the particular LDAP server you are defining. This path must be defined off the root of the web server's DOCS directory.

  • Web URL: This is where users are sent if they click on the image defined in the Image URL value. This is a nice way to link a website to the LDAP server graphic.

  • Username: Enter the LDAP username that must be used to authenticate to the LDAP server you are defining. Some LDAP servers do not require authentication.

  • Password: Enter the LDAP username's password here. This allows the LDAPProvider object to authenticate to the LDAP server and perform the query, if necessary.

  • Define Field Mappings: Click this option to set up field mappings. If your LDAP server is configured to return additional values for each user, you can map these fields to fields that will be displayed in the WebAccess client.

If you need to add additional field mappings, click Add. This will add a row where you can then type in the LDAP and local fields.

This section covered how to create additional LDAP address books that are then available within the GroupWise WebAccess address book.
