Running the Code Compatibility Analyzer

After you create the Bulletin Board application using ColdFusion Server 5.0, you're required to test it on ColdFusion Server 5.0. You need to test the application on multiple machines through Internet Explorer.

To make it compatible with the ColdFusion MX, you need to follow these steps:

1. Back up the application on a test server.

2. Install ColdFusion MX on the same computer where ColdFusion Server 5.0 resides. You need to select Upgrade to ColdFusion MX from the Welcome screen of the Setup wizard.

3. After ColdFusion MX is installed on the machine, the ColdFusion Administrator automatically starts for the first time. It allows you to migrate the ColdFusion Server 5.0 settings to ColdFusion MX. Click the Continue button to proceed with the process.

4. After migrating the settings to ColdFusion MX, you're required to enter the password you provided during the installation. The ColdFusion Administrator is displayed.

5. Click Code Analyzer in the Debugging and Logging section in the left pane of the ColdFusion MX Administrator. The CFML Code Analyzer is displayed in the right pane of the ColdFusion Administrator. The Code Compatibility Analyzer reviews the CFML pages and informs you about any potential compatibility issues. Figure 10.11 shows the Code Compatibility Analyzer section in the right pane.

6. Click the Browse Server button to browse the virtual directory, Sforum, in the Internet Information Server (IIS).

7. Click the Run Analyzer button to detect any unsupported and deprecated CFML features. It displays a CFMX Code Compatibility Report with the current date, time, and number of errors detected by the analyzer, as shown in Figure 10.12.

Note

The Code Compatibility Analyzer does not execute or compile the code. However, it detects any compatibility issues in the code.
