In previous versions of SQL Server, the values for the table and index row counts and page counts could become incorrect. To correct invalid row or page counts, it's recommended that you run DBCC UPDATEUSAGE on all databases following the upgrade. These inaccuracies may cause incorrect spaceusage reports returned by the sp_spaceused system stored procedure. This issue has been resolved in SQL Server 2005. Databases created on SQL Server 2005 should never experience incorrect counts; however, databases upgraded to SQL Server 2005 may contain invalid counts.
