You'll notice that each window has a Fast Menu attached to it. These menus are extremely helpful and they only affect the window they are attached to. If you open the Project window, you'll see the following options (see Figure 3.4).
These options have a direct impact on the Project window only. Fast Menus are simply methods of toggling commands quickly. Some features of Avid Xpress Pro can be accessed only through these menus. Throughout the book, I'll be referring to these menus. If I mention the Timeline Fast Menu, it's the Fast Menu icon attached to the Timeline (see Figure 3.5).
There's also a Tools Fast Menu. Click on the Fast Menu attached to the Composer window. Notice this displays tool icons, not menu items (see Figure 3.6). This window is also called a tear-off menu . If you open this window, move your mouse pointer inside of it, and then out of the menu box to either the left or right, you'll notice the menu becomes its own standalone window. Once you click, the Tools menu will stay open as its own window.
