If there were one piece of software that I would recommend you add to your editing system, it would have to be Adobe Photoshop. Building graphics and backgrounds and resizing images are only a few of the things Photoshop can help you do. The program was created basically as a photo touchup program, but over the years nonlinear editors have been attracted to it due to its entire graphic-editing capabilities.
Although it would be great to cover all of Photoshop's capabilities, it would be impossible to do so in this book. If you want to learn how to use Photoshop there are numerous books, videos , DVDs and classes that cover the software. Also visit the companion website for this book for some of my recommendations. This appendix focuses on just three very basic tasks that you might use Photoshop for on a regular basis: creating a background, re-sizing an image, and creating an alpha channel for text or a logo. Note that as this book is going to publication, Photoshop 7.0 was available. Adobe was in the process of releasing Adobe Photoshop CS.
