Finding Something on the Internet

To search for a specific item on the Interneta list of sources where you can buy other Plain & Simple books, for example, or the menu and locator map for that new restaurant you want to tryyou can search from almost anywhere in Windows Vista. When the results are displayed, you can jump to the page that contains the information you're looking for, and, if it's not what you want, you can try another page.

Search for an Item

In Internet Explorer, click the Search Options button, and select a search service if you want to use one other than your default service. If the service you want isn't listed, click Find More Providers, and then select the one you want from the Web page that appears.

Click the Search box, type the search information, and press Enter to start the search. If you want the results to appear on a new tab, press Alt+Enter instead.

Click a link in the search results.

Conduct any other related actions or searches.

Close the Internet Explorer window when you've finished with the search results.

Tip

You must, of course, be connected to the Internet before you can search for anything on the Internet.

Tip

You can search from the Search box in any folder window or from the Start menu by clicking the See Other Options down arrow and choosing to search the Internet from the drop-down menu. However, you can use only the default search provider you chose in Internet Explorer.
