Chapter 59. Managing Forums Security

The Forums module has its own flexible (and slightly complex) security system built right in. You access the first part of this system by selecting Permissions, under Forum Admin, on the Forums module's main Administration menu. You then select a forum to work with.

By default, forums are in Simple Permissions mode, which allows you to make the forum available to the following:

• Everyone (Public) who has access to the Forums module.

• Registered users only.

• Registered users only, with the forum itself hidden. Users must know its direct URL to access it.

• Moderators only.

• Moderators only, with the forum hidden.

• Administrators only.

• Administrators only, with the forum hidden.

The idea behind hidden forums is that they won't tempt users who don't have access to them.
