The Basics of Antitrust

Antitrust laws were designed for the ultimate purpose of promoting competition and a free marketplace . Although antitrust laws do not guarantee that all competitors will survive, they do work to prevent the larger, more dominant competitors from taking advantage of their market position in an unfair way to force smaller, less dominant competitors out of business. They also work to insure that consumers pay a market price for their goods and services, and not a price that has been manipulated by the suppliers.

After 30 years of working in the antitrust field, I have noticed several changes in the day-to-day practice, but much of the practice today is the same as it was when I started down this path . Here, I will try to discuss some of the changes and offer some practical tips for various situations that may be encountered .
