Reliable information regarding influences outside of your own knowledge base is crucial. I interact regularly with many other senior managers of technology-based companies, for example. Many managers in our company are active participants in a dynamic Technology Council of approximately 700 corporate members in the mid-Atlantic region, and I have volunteered to serve in various positions with the organization over the years . This has provided first-hand information and ideas as to what is going on and how others are dealing with those conditions. I also read as much as I can and participate in business forums dealing with topics of impact. However, I find that the personal interactions help as much or even more than the reading. Talking to people is the way that I best process and recall information and ideas.
