The Quick Way to Copy Text Attributes

graphics/troubleshooting_icon.jpg

I want to have the same formatting on different text blocks but don't want to go through the hassles of creating a style. Is there a shortcut?

If you want to use the same text formatting on different blocks of text in your document, a common approach is to create a style. However, there are times when you just want to do something quick and informal. To use a shortcut, select some of the text you want to copy using the Text tool. Go to (Edit, Copy Attributes). Then select the text y you want to add that formatting to and choose (Edit, Paste Attributes).

Creating One Object from Many

I'm not that handy at drawing complex shapes or modifying existing ones, but I can create the shape I want by combining different shapes like ellipses, rectangles and stars. Is there a way I can turn all of those different objects into one object?

Select all the objects, or parts of objects, you want to combine. Choose (Edit, Join) to create one object from many. If there are any open ends you will also need to close the object either by finishing the shape yourself or by checking Closed in the Object Inspector.

Cropping Imported Photos

I like to crop my photos after I bring them into FreeHand, but haven't found an easy way of doing this without going back to Fireworks.

After you've imported your photo into FreeHand, select the Rectangle tool and draw a rectangle over the photo as you would like to have it cropped. Select the photo with the Pointer tool and Cut it (Edit, Cut). Select the rectangle and choose (Edit, Paste Contents) to paste the photo inside the rectangle.
