Tools

Several tools are included on the CD-ROM; some are full versions while others are demonstration versions. To check for newer versions or implementations for other platforms, please visit the Web site for the tool. Each tool is in its own folder under the Tools folder:

• Cmake: Platform-independent build utility for C/C++ inspired by the Apache Ant build utility for Java. Please read the accompanying license. Available as a binary Windows install or source code in either zip or tar/gzip format.

• CppUnit: Testing library for C++, similar to JUnit for Java. Provides utilities for writing automated testing, including an accompanying GUI interface. This library is covered under the GNU Lesser General Public License. Available as a single zip file or two Unix tar/gzip files for source and documentation.

• Doc-O-Matic: Automated code documentation without the need for special comment formatting. Particularly useful for legacy code. Demonstration version available as a Windows install.

• Doxygen: Automated documentation utility for C/C++, similar to JavaDoc for Java. Requires special commenting format. This software is covered under the GNU General Public License. Available as a binary Windows install or source code in either zip or tar/gzip format.

• Milestones: Project management and scheduling software. Available as a Windows install in either exe or msi format.

• Perforce: Version control software that provides a balance between price and features. Full-featured version for two users only available as Windows install. Contact Perforce for information on licensing more users.

• Ruby: Fully object-oriented language particularly useful for scripting and fast prototyping. This software is covered under the GNU General Public License. Available as a binary Windows install.

• Visual Assist: Enhanced editor plug-in for Microsoft Visual Studio. Provides auto-completion, code templates, and other useful features to make code editing more efficient. Available as a Windows install for Microsoft Visual Studio 6 or Microsoft Visual Studio .NET.

• WinCVS: GUI front end for the CVS version control system. Not as easy to use as other version control systems, but this is balanced by the fact that it is free. This software is covered under the GNU General Public License. Available as a binary Windows install.
