Chapter 6. What Can Be Placed under Configuration ManagementMany objects are produced or maybe purchased in the course of producing products. In principle, everything may be placed under configuration management. An object placed under configuration management is called a configuration item. A configuration item is any possible part of the development or delivery of a system or product that it's necessary to identify, produce, store, use, and change individually. Configuration items may vary considerably in complexity. A configuration item may be an individual item or a collection of other items, so-called deliveries, which can be placed under configuration management in their own right. |
