Dedication

Having written the equivalent of thousands of pages of code during my career, along with numerous technical articles and other journalistic endeavors, writing a 350 page book on software development did not seem like such a large venture when I began it. Nearly a year later, I must say I greatly underestimated the time and challenges involved. This book, however, is not only a product of my efforts but of the many people who helped me, directly and indirectly, over the last twelve months. The biggest help came from my immediate family who put up with my late nights typing away during winter holidays, summer vacation, weekends, and whenever else a free moment could be found. I therefore dedicate this book to my wife of ten years , Roberta, and our two wonderful children, Camille and Evan.
