Microsoft Word's proofing tools will help you polish your writing and improve the appearance of your documents. Word provides some proofing tools that you can use while you enter the text into a document: namely, the as-you-type spelling and grammar checkers and the thesaurus. It provides other proofing tools—the full-featured spelling and grammar checkers and the hyphenation command—that you generally use after you have finished entering, editing, and formatting the text in your document, but before you preview the printed appearance of the document and make the final adjustments to the page setup (discussed in the next chapter).
