How URLs Help Retrieve Web Documents

The web browser installed on your local computer sends your TCP/IP software a signal that it is ready to request a document. TCP/IP makes a connection with the host TCP/IP software. After the connection is established, your browser makes a request for a document by sending its URL through the two-way connection maintained by TCP/IP to the server.
