Building Animated Tables

You can animate Keynote tables so that the parts of the table appear on the screen in sequence. This adds some visual flair to the table, and can even add a touch of drama. It's especially effective to have the contents of a table build in to your slide. With tables, you can use build effects as listed in Table 9.2, but with different delivery options appropriate to tables.

To add a build to a table

1.	Switch to a slide with the table you want to animate.
2.	Display the Build Inspector.
3.	By default, the Build In tab is selected. If you want to create a Build Out, click that tab. Otherwise, continue on the Build In tab.
4.	On your slide, select the table.
5.	From the Effect pop-up menu, choose the type of animation you want.
6.	From the Direction pop-up menu, choose the direction from which you want the parts of the table to move onto the slide.
7.	From the Delivery pop-up menu ( Figure 9.10 ), choose one of the following: All at Once builds the entire contents of the table onto or off of the slide. By Row builds each row of the table onto or off of the slide, one at a time. The rows begin with the top of the table and work down, regardless of the choice in the Direction pop-up menu. By Column builds each column of the table onto or off of the slide, one at a time. The columns begin with the leftmost column of the table and work to the right, regardless of the choice in the Direction pop-up menu. By Cell brings each cell onto or off of the slide, one at a time. The cells begin with the upper-leftmost cells , and work across, and then down. By Row Content first brings on the table background (the grid and any cell fills), then causes the contents of the table to appear, one row at a time. By Column Content first brings on the table background (the grid and any cell fills), then causes the contents of the table to appear, one column at a time. By Cell Content first brings on the table background (the grid and any cell fills), then causes the contents of the table to appear, one cell at a time. Figure 9.10. The Delivery pop-up menu for tables gives you fine-grained control over the animated appearance of table elements. Whenever you make a change in the Build Inspector, you'll see a thumbnail preview of the build in the Inspector's preview area ( Figure 9.11 ). Figure 9.11. 8.	Enter the build's length in seconds in the Duration field. The default duration is one second.
9.	If the Build Order drawer is not open , click the Set Automatic Builds button. The Build Order drawer opens.
10.	By default, "On Click" is selected from the Start Build pop-up menu. This means that you will need to click the mouse while giving your presentation in order for the build to start. If you want the build to begin automatically as soon as you switch to the slide, choose "Automatically after transition."
11.	If you want to create a Build Out, click the Build Out tab, then repeat steps 4 through 10.

Tip

• Using the Wipe build style is especially nice for tables; the wipe has a soft edge that looks quite attractive.
