Merging and Splitting Cells

Keynote lets you merge cells , which is combining two or more adjacent cells into one larger cell, or split a single cell into two or more cells, either vertically or horizontally.

To merge cells

1.
Select the cells you want to merge.

2.
In the Table Inspector, click Merge Cells.

or

Choose Format > Table > Merge Cells.

or

Control-click or right-click the selection and choose Merge Cells from the contextual menu.

The cells merge ( Figure 7.16 ).

Tip

  • You can merge an entire row or column into one cell. The contents, if any, of the row or column will be incorporated into the new cell, and if necessary, text will wrap to fit in the new cell.

To split cells

1.
Click outside the table to make sure that nothing in the table is selected, then double-click in the cell that you want to split.

2.
In the Table Inspector, click Split Rows or Split Columns.

or

Choose Format > Table > Split into Rows or choose Format > Table > Split into Columns.

or

Control-click or right-click the selection and choose Split into Rows or Split into Columns from the contextual menu.

The cell splits as you command ( Figure 7.17 ).

Tip

  • If you select more than one cell, Keynote will split all of them evenly. This works even if the selected cells are not adjacent.
