Section 13. About the Review Process

13. About the Review Process

Before sending off a PDF for review, you must first decide whether you want the review to be email-based or browser-based. Email-based reviews are ideal when you need to have clients , people outside your company, or anyone who does not have access to the same shared server review documents. Browser-based reviews require that all participants have access to the same shared server, but they have the advantage that comments are available to view by all reviewers during the review process. You might also choose to send the PDF document as a regular email attachment to each reviewer for commenting, but you need to manually keep track of the review and their comments. Acrobat does not automatically manage comments generated from this type of review.

KEY TERMS

Email-based reviews A review process in which PDFs are sent by email to recipients for commenting as attachments.

Browser-based reviews A review process in which the PDF is stored in one location, usually on a shared server, and accessed by the reviewers via a web browser.

Acrobat simplifies the document review process with setup wizards that walk you step-by-step through the process of setting up either an email-based or browser-based review. The Tracker helps you manage the review process by listing document reviews you've initiated along with a list of review participants, a list of reviews you are participating in, and any documents you have taken offline for review.

NOTE

Adobe Reader 7 now enables reviewers to participate in the document review process. It is recommended that the reviewer use Adobe Reader 7 when reviewing and commenting on a document originating from Acrobat 7.

Reviewers with older versions of Acrobat can participate in the document review process, but many features are unavailable to them if the original review process was initiated in Acrobat 7.
