You can use Acrobat to convert a scanned image of a document into an editable and searchable PDF file. This process is called paper capture . Paper capture is useful when you cannot locate the original digital file that was used to create a document or when you need to create a digital version of a printed document. You can convert your paper documents into PDFs for email distribution, archive them to a CD-ROM, or post them on a shared server for fellow co-workers to view.

TIP

If you have large volumes of pages to convert to PDF, you might consider purchasing Adobe's Acrobat Capture 3.0 software and a high-volume, sheet-fed scanner. Capture offers more options and more robust document conversion and OCR features. It is designed for processing up to tens of thousands of pages and comes in both personal and workgroup versions.
