The Case Study Status

The Case Study Status

The business modeling has been completed for EAB Healthcare. (As we mentioned in the last chapter, in this type of development, which typically takes an iterative approach, you can never assume that something is completed, once and for all, never to change again. Nevertheless, the business modeling is complete enough to proceed to the next major activity.) The business and development teams feel comfortable with their understanding of the way the business operates now and the way the business people want it to operate in the future. The teams were quite surprised with the amount of information that business modeling yielded. Critical timing and numerous other business rules were revealed while the details of the business use cases were elaborated (see various diagrams in Appendix A, such as Figure A-18, the Comply with Regulations /Establish MDS sequence diagram, and Figure A-22, the Maintain MDS sequence diagram, among others). The business team has provided copies of the critical sections of the currently paper-based clinical records that they want automated. These will be used as supplemental specifications to prototype the new user interface and to add details to the data model.
