Summary

DHTML and the timeline offer the traditional web developer the opportunity to create engaging, interactive websites that don't require plug-ins. In this chapter, you learned about DHTML and the timeline. You also looked at the features of the timeline that facilitate animation, including the Timelines panel and various options included for controlling and managing animations within the timeline. Towards the end of the chapter, you looked at behaviors and how they can engage the user by providing a medium from which to control animation from the timeline. We then put those topics into practice by building a Stop and Play Timeline feature, a fully animated pop-up menu, and an image-based slideshow.

In the next chapter, we'll move away from DHTML and begin our review of the audio and video capabilities built into Dreamweaver. We'll then explore how Dreamweaver interfaces with the complimentary programs Flash and Fireworks.
