Chapter 6 -- Configuring New Windows 2000 Server Installations

[Previous] [Next]

Chapter 6

After installing Microsoft Windows 2000, you need to configure your server with any devices to be added after setup, possibly change your networking protocols and services, and install key server tools such as Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name System (DNS) service, and Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS) servers. The goal of this chapter is to help you get your system in basic working order, with information on fine-tuning to come in later chapters. For example, Chapter 12 has more information on the management of DHCP, DNS, and WINS. Also, if you need to configure disks, see Chapter 14 before installing DHCP and DNS.
