Creating Security Groups

 < Day Day Up >

The security groups built in to Windows Small Business Server 2003 are sufficient for most operations. Changing the options for the built-in templates can cover a lot of variation among companies. One conspicuous lack is a security group granting access to personnel and financial information. Every company has confidential information that must be accessed by only a limited number of people. To handle needs of this type, create a new security group by following these steps:

  1. Select Server Management from the Start menu. Click Security Groups and then click Add A Security Group to launch the Add Security Group Wizard.

  2. On the Security Group Information page, provide a name and description for the group.

  3. On the Group Membership page, select members. You can add individual users or another security group. You can also make a template (see “Managing User Templates” later in this chapter) to create user accounts specific to the new group.

  4. On the final page of the wizard, the settings are summarized. Click the link at the bottom of the page to save the summary.
