Entering the Type

Another way to choose Web color is with the Color palette. Here, you ll color the type with a hexadecimal that you choose from the Color palette:

1. In the Layers palette, target the Ballerina layer.

2. Choose the Type tool, and click on the canvas but don t type yet. To specify a hexadecimal value for the type color, open the Color palette by choosing Window ’ Color. The Color palette has three drop-down boxes, one each for red, green, and blue. Select values from the drop-down lists. The Web Safe palette limits you to the following hexadecimal values for red, green, and blue: 00, 33, 66, 99, CC, and FF, so these are the only values offered by the drop-down lists, making the selection of Web-safe colors quick and error-free. The sliders under the red, green, and blue color bars also snap to these six values. You can also type hex values directly in the boxes. As you can see in Figure H9.5, I chose #FF0033.

3. I used 160-point Edwardian Script ITC for the font, but you can use another typeface. Type the words Ballet Bleu in the lower part of the image.

4. Click the Move tool and select Align Layer Horizontal Centers from the Option bar to center the text.

5. In the Layers palette, /right-click the Type layer and choose Layer Style ’ Drop Shadow from the pop-up menu to display the Layer Style dialog box (ImageReady).

6. Set the opacity to 50%; use all of the other defaults. Don t click OK yet.

7. Check the Bevel & Emboss option and choose the Inner Bevel style. I used the Smooth technique with a depth of 201%. Click OK to close the Layer Style dialog box. The type should look like Figure H9.6.

The color swatches in the Type drop-down list include only Web-safe colors. You can safely choose any one of these colors.

You can drag and drop a color from ImageReady s toolbox, color selection box, Color palette, Color Table palette, or Swatches palette onto a Type layer or any layer. This will add a Color Overlay layer style of that color to the layer.
