This chapter's goals were as follows :
To discuss object-oriented programming
To understand HTML
To explore client-side scripting languages
To examine XML
In this chapter, you were introduced to a number of prerequisite topics. I like to refer to this set of topics as "foundational concepts and technologies for Web/Windows programming." You started with object-oriented concepts. Then, you moved on to HTML. You saw some actual HTML code in a very basic example. I included a discussion about client-side scripting and explained the time and place for its usage. Lastly, you reviewed XML and several XML- related technologies.
You covered a lot of ground in this chapter. Honestly, I think this will be one of those chapters that some of you will choose to revisit and reread a few times. Certainly be sure to take advantage of the supplemental links and references provided
in the "To Learn More" section at the end of this chapter (and every chapter). In the next chapter, you will move into .NET drill-down mode. You will explore the choices for program editors (Notepad and Visual Studio .NET, among others). To support that discussion, you will review the actual .NET programming language choices. Early in the chapter, I state my recommendations. Lastly, you will review several illustrative code samples.
