Why C# Games Don t Use Bitmaps
If you examine the modern games being sold for PCs and Macs you will note that most of them use bitmaps as the primary visual presentation method. For example, if a person on the screen speaks, the only portion of the visual presentation that moves is the person s mouth ” not the complete body. With the software that the Visual Studio C# compiler provides, the programmer cannot insert a portion of the bitmap ” the entire bitmap must be reworked and re-presented. Overwriting a basic bitmap with a small bitmap is tricky business for the graphics neophyte ” but not for the professional graphics person who makes cartoons for everyday use on the media networks.
Future versions of the Visual Studio C# compiler will increase the graphics capability of the programs produced, but the ability to create professional-quality cartoons will remain the purview of highly sophisticated commercial software used at TV stations that rents for about $20,000 a month.
