Beihai is one of the closest ports from China's mainland to the port cities in south-east Asia, West Asia, Africa and Europe and thus is a convenient gateway to the sea for Beihai's south-western region and part of southern and central China. Beihai has a coastline of 500 kilometres, with several gulfs and port areas. The city has three major ports: Beihai old port, Shibuling New Port and Tieshan Port. There are six berths of 10,000 tonnes and over, and 16 berths of under 5,000 tons. Beihai Airport operates over 20 domestic and international flights . Railway and highway construction have developed rapidly and the city is connected with other parts of the Guangxi province and the country. Beihai has high quality air and has one of the highest living standards in China.
