In 2000, 32 FDI contracts were approved in the region. The contracted investment totalled US$99.27 million, an increase of 59.4 per cent over 1999. FDI in contractual joint ventures dropped by 81.4 per cent, while investment in equity joint ventures and wholly foreign- owned enterprises experienced increased by 121.8 per cent and 36.75 per cent respectively (see Table 7.30.4).

Of all these FDI projects, 29 were production-orientated and 3 projects were non-production- related . Foreign direct investments came from 11 countries and regions (see Table 7.30.5).
