In 2000, Shaanxi province approved 215 FDI contracts with a total contracted investment of US$499.31 million (see Table 7.27.4). This was a slight increase on 1999, attributed to the sharp increase (+144 per cent) in the investment in solely foreign-owned enterprises . The FDI in equity and contractual joint ventures had declined by 43.29 per cent and 11.94 per cent respectively.

Of the 215 FDI projects approved in 2000, 145 were production-orientated and 70 were non-production- related . The foreign direct investment came mainly from 23 countries and regions . Key sources of FDI are listed in Table 7.27.5.
