In 2000, 11 FDI contracts were approved in Tibet Autonomous Region, with a total contractual foreign investment of US$68.6876 million, up by 90.4 per cent over US$6.84 million in 1999. Among these were nine equity joint ventures , with contractual foreign investment of US$13.6876 million and two solely foreign- owned enterprises , with a contractual foreign investment of US$55 million. Of the FDI projects, one was production- related and ten were in the service sector.
The FDI came from six countries and regions : Nepal (five projects and investment value of US$101800); Hong Kong (two projects and investment value of US$11.943 million) the USA (one project and investment value of US$50 million); Singapore (one project and investment value of US$1.6368 million); France (one project and investment value of US$6,000) and Republic of Korea (one project and investment value of US$5 million).
