Shaanxi Province is situated in north-western China in the middle reaches of the Yellow River. The province has a river valley in the centre and highlands in the north and south. A plateau lies in the north and the Qinling Range in the south. Xi'an is one of China's most famous tourist attractions with many historical sites and scenic spots, including the life- size pottery army (terracotta warriors and horses). The total area is 205,800 square kilometres and the population is 36.586 million. The provincial capital is Xi'an. Major economic indicators are shown in Table 7.27.1.
