The total number of FDI contracts approved by Guangxi in 2000 was 246, with a total contract value of US$715.49 million. This represented a moderate increase of 6.2 per cent over 1999. Investment in equity and contractual joint ventures experienced negative growth rates of 35.3 per cent and 17 per cent respectively but the contract value of solely foreign-owned enterprises increased by 83.1 per cent in 2000 (see Table 7.20.4).

In 2000, FDI came from more diversified sources. The percentage of direct investments from Taiwan Province, Hong Kong and Macao declined from 55 per cent in 1999 to 39 per cent, while investments from North America and Latin America were up from 5 per cent and 2 per cent respectively in 1999 to 27 per cent and 17 per cent.
