The total trade of Anhui Province reached US$3.33 billion in value in 2000, up by 25.7 per cent over US$2.65 billion in 1999. Export contributed to nearly 65 per cent of the province's foreign trade and the total export value was US$2.16 billion, up by 29 per cent over US$1.68 billion in 1999. However, export had less weight in terms of its contribution to the province's GDP. Export earnings in 2000 were equivalent to 5.9 per cent of the province 's GDP and accounted for 0.87 per cent of the country's total export value.
Export of primary products amounted to US$290 million, accounting for 13.4 per cent of the total export value; the export of manufactured products was US$1.87 billion, accounting for 86.6 per cent of total export value (see Table 7.12.2).

Total import value was US$1.17 billion, up by 20.1 per cent over US$970 million in 1999. Import of primary products accounted for US$450 million, or 38.9 per cent of the total import value, while import of manufactured products came to US$710 million, 61.1 per cent of the total. The European Union as a whole supplied 18.2 per cent of the province's import needs, a little more than Japan, which provided 18 per cent of the province's total import (see Table 7.12.3).
