Transport and communications are convenient . Anhui has a well-connected network of railways which provide easy transport to different parts of the country. The Beijing-Shanghai, Beijing-Kowloon and Longhai railways run through the province. The airport in Hefei provides direct air services to Shanghai, Beijing and other cities in China. 400 kilometres of the Yangtze river flow through the province, allowing the passage of large ships all year round. Ports at Anqing, Wuhu, Tongling and Maanshan along the Yangtze River are open to foreign vessels. Vessels of 5,000 tonnes can sail through the rivers all year round and shipping services to Hong Kong, Japan, Russia and other south-east Asian countries are available. Major highways include the Hefei-Nanjing and the Hefei-Wuhu Expressways.
