Infrastructure

Jiangsu enjoys the most advanced and convenient inland water transportation system in the country. The Yangtze River flows through the province from the west to the east and the Grand Canal links Jiangsu with other provinces in the north and south. The ports of Lianyun- gang, Nantong, Zhangjiagang, Nanjing, Zhenjiang, Yangzhou and Jiangyin constitue a cluster of ports along the lower reach of the Yangtze River, all of which are open to foreign vessels. There are direct shipping routes linking the province to major international ports in Hong Kong, Japan, Southeast Asia, Australia and Europe. The province has a well-developed railway transportation network and several major railway lines pass through the province. The Longhai Line is an important part of the New Asia-Europe Continent Bridge, linking Lianyungang with the Siberia Railways to Europe. Highway development has been rapid and a web of highways networks all parts of the province . Currently, there are eight airports (located in Nanjing, Suzhou, Changzhou, Xuzhou, Wuxi, Nantong, Lianyungang and Yancheng) in Jiangsu offering flights to other parts of the country. The Nanjing Lukou International Airport is the main airport offering flights to Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, the US and some European countries .
