The region's trunk railway lines are the Beijing-Hohhot, Beijing-Baotou, Hohhot-Hailar and Jining-Eren railways. Manzhouli and Erenhot stations , which connect the Trans-Siberian Railway in Russia and Mongolia, serve as important gateways between China and Europe. The highway network in the region is fairly well developed and the Hohhot-Baotou Expressway is the major highway in Inner Mongolia. Hohhot airport has around 50 air routes to major cities in China, Mongolia and Russia. Inner Mongolia has invested heavily to improve the telecommunications system and there is enough energy available to support the developing economy.
