Because of its coastal location, Tianjin has abundant fisheries and high salt production. Tianjin's salt, with its high (96-98 per cent) sodium chloride content, is an important material for the marine chemicals industry. The Bohai Sea continental shelf has rich oil and natural gas deposits and has become one of China's major areas for oil exploration and production. The Dagang and Bohai Bay oilfields have plentiful reserves , and the Changlu salt field is the largest in China. More than 35 minerals, including coal, iron ore, copper , molybdenum, tungsten, barite, dolomite, manganese, china clay and marble, are found in Tianjin.
