Q&A

Q1:

Why don't the tracer arrows display on my worksheet?

A1:

The Hide All option is probably selected in the Options dialog box. When the Hide All option is not selected, Excel displays the tracer arrows on your worksheets. If the option is selected, Excel does not display any tracer arrows when you audit your worksheets. Choose Tools, Options, and click the View tab. Make sure the Show All option is selected in the Objects section on the View tab.

Q2:

I clicked the Remove Precedents Arrows tool twice on the Formula Auditing toolbar to remove two levels of precedent tracer arrows. Why did Excel remove only one level of arrows?

A2:

The maximum number of tracer arrow levels is two: red and blue. Dependent and precedent tracer arrows are blue and error value tracer arrows are red. Clicking the Remove Precedents Arrows button on the Formula Auditing toolbar removes only one level of tracer arrows. You need to click the Remove All Arrows button to remove all arrows from the worksheet.

Q3:

Why did Excel remove only one level of dependent arrows on my worksheet when I clicked the Remove Dependents Arrows tool twice on the Formula Auditing toolbar?

A3:

Excel displays two levels of tracer arrows: blue arrows for dependent values and red arrows for error values. Clicking the Remove Dependents Arrows button on the Formula Auditing toolbar removes only one level of tracer arrows. You need to click the Remove All Arrows button to remove all arrows from the worksheet.
