As the Internet grows year after year, so does the need to work productively away from the office. Companies are always looking for alternative cost-effective methods of connecting their remote and mobile users and offices without sacrificing performance or security. Microsoft Windows Server 2003's Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS) offers integrated multiprotocol routing and remote access services for Microsoft Windowsbased computers; RRAS provides multiprotocol LAN-to-LAN, LAN-to-WAN, virtual private network (VPN), and Network Address Translation (NAT) routing services. RRAS enables companies to provide remote access services to their remote and mobile users; it also provides an alternative for connecting their branch offices. RRAS also works with a wide variety of hardware platforms and network adapters as well as various media types such as Ethernet, FDDI, ATM, frame relay, xDSL, and cable modems. In addition, RRAS is extensible, providing an application programming interface (API) that third-party developers can use to create custom networking solutions.
