Syncing Multiple VS Workstations

 <  Day Day Up  >

Synchronizing multiple VS workstations is an easy and affordable way to add more tracks to your current VS. In fact, I use three VS-880EX synced together, giving me a 24-track recorder. To sync up two machines, you will need a MIDI cable and a digital audio cable. In this setup, one VS must be the master and the other the slave. Connect the MIDI-Out from the master to the MIDI-In on the slave, and connect the digital out from the master to the digital in on the slave. There are a few system-level settings that need to be changed on each machine as well. Finally, on the slave machine, set the Stereo In setting to Digital and the Master Clock to DIGIN1 or DIGIN2, depending on which digital port you are using. To change the Stereo In setting, switch the mixer to the Effects Return Mixer, then press the SELECT button above track 6 two times. Use the jogwheel to select RTN StereoIn = Digital. You can change the Master Clock via SYSTEM SYSTEM SYS PRM ? SYS MasterClk = and use the jogwheel to select the proper value.

Now, when you press PLAY on the master, both machines will play. The output of the master will be brought into the slave machine via the Stereo In setting, meaning you can control each track on each machine via its fader.

If you sync multiple VS workstations, remember that you'll need to back up each machine separately. You'll also want to plan out your recording session in terms of which tracks should end up on which machine. This comes into play during mixdown , as effect processors cannot be shared between the machines.
