TIP 244: Automatically Converting Hyperlinks

Name: URLize

Developer: GoLive Product Team

Source: Sample Extension in the GoLive SDK folder

Cost: Free

Converting a bunch of email addresses or Web site URLs in a page to hyperlinks can be a really tedious task. Links pages and employee directories are perfect examples of Web pages with lots of hyperlinks or email addresses. It's not hard, but it's really boring and error-prone.

The URLize extension automates hyperlinking and is included for free as a sample extension with GoLive. If you don't have the Adobe GoLive SDK:Samples folder in your GoLive application folder, you can always download the latest version of the SDK and the sample extension at http://partners.adobe.com/asn/golive/download.jsp.

To convert a link, select the email address or URL in the Layout Editor and choose Extensions> URLize text > Convert a selected URL or email text to a link (Figure 244). GoLive instantly converts the selected text, such as http://www.adobe.com, into a link to itself.

You can also convert the entire page at once. If you have several URLs and email addresses to convert in a page, select Extensions> URLize text > Convert all URL and email text to links. What a timesaver!
