TIP 230: Reverting a Page to a Previous Version

If you find that you need to revert a Version Cue-managed page back to a previous version, you can do so quite easily by following these simple steps:

1.

Select the page in the Files list of the Site window.

2.

Click the Versions button in the Version Control toolbar or choose Site > Version Control Systems > Versions.

3.

When the Versions window opens, select the version you want to promote in the list.

4.

Click the Promote to Current Version button.

5.

Click Done.

What Are Alternates?

Nestled in the Version Control System submenus is an item named Alternates. What is an alternate and when would you use it? Let's say you are working on a prototype for a site and you design several sample pages. Version Cue allows you to designate these pages as alternates of one another. To create an alternate, select two or more documents in the site window and choose Site > Version Control System > Alternates > Make Alternate. One of the alternates will always be considered the primary, or the first choice, but you can change the primary alternate designation by selecting one of the other alternates and choosing Site > Version Control System > Alternates > Make Primary Alternate. Alternates and primary alternate each have a unique symbol associated with them in the Alternates column of the site window.

The newly promoted version of the page will open, and the Versions dialog box will close (Figure 230). When you promote a previous version to current status, a new version is created, complete with new version number.
